Edward Donald Lenar was born on February 10, 1935 - the only son of August and Anna (nee: Tomas) Lenar, who were Polish immigrants who came to Canada in 1923, and became coal miners in Estevan, Saskatchewan (Canada). August and Anna also had a daughter, Frances Szaran (Henry).
